Gender Therapy & LGBTQ2SIA+ Identities
I have over thirteen years of experience working with LGBTQ2SIA+ populations, including queer people of color (QPOC), in a variety of settings. I strive to support and guide you in navigating your identities while using an identity affirming and culturally responsive approach. I create a safe and open environment where we can explore personal challenges and questions you may have about gender, your gender identity and/or sexual and affectional orientations.
Sometimes the focus of counseling is not on gender identity or sexual/affectional orientation, yet it is important and helpful to work with someone who has the experience and a strong understanding of issues unique to LGBTQ2SIA+ populations. I am here to provide that experience, understanding and support. My practice is welcoming of all identities and relationship structures. My goal is to help you gain personal insight and empower you to live life as your authentic, vibrant self. Letters for Gender-Affirming Health Care For individuals seeking letters for hormones or surgery I can write these in line with WPATH Standards of Care. My counseling approach is identity-affirming. I believe in the informed consent model, yet I know some medical practitioners and insurances still require letters provided by a therapist. I am happy to advocate and support you through the sometimes confusing process of obtaining gender affirming hormone therapy (GAHT) and/or gender affirming surgeries. Family Members Parents, family members, loved ones and partners of LGBTQ2SIA+ individuals also need support from time to time. If you know someone who has recently come out and would like some additional support in an understanding and welcoming environment where you can process the extent of your experience, I am here to support you. |
Multicultural Identity-Affirming Counseling
We all come from unique backgrounds that have been shaped by our life experiences and our identities. Understanding how multicultural identities (e.g. race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, ability, religion) influence the ways in which we experience the world can lead to greater self-understanding and increased confidence. I believe our individual experiences are shaped by the intersection of our identities and use an approach to counseling that includes intersectionality.
Many people experience the impacts of discrimination and prejudice based on certain identities. Having a safe and understanding environment that provides support while processing these impacts can be essential to quality of life. I collaborate with clients who hold marginalized identities to find effective ways to manage microaggressions and other forms of daily discrimination, as well as build skills to strengthen resiliency. I have over thirteen years of experience working with multicultural populations as well as providing trainings on equity and inclusion. I use a culturally responsive, identity-affirming approach to help you explore personal experiences and challenges related to issues of discrimination and prejudice. I will help you find effective ways to work through difficult or harmful situations, manage potential stressors and build overall resiliency. |
Highly Sensitive People (HSP) |
Career Counseling |
Highly Sensitive People make up around 15-20% of the population and are often misunderstood. As an HSP myself, I understand the unique challenges HSPs can face navigating mainstream cultural expectations. I enjoy working with HSPs on their goals to increase life satisfaction and manage living in a world not created for HSPs. I use a strengths-based approach that affirms your experience as an HSP rather than pathologize it. I'm here to walk with you through difficult times and empower you in your sensitive identity.
If you are an HSP, it's important to work with a counselor who is knowledgeable about the HSP trait. I have met the criteria as an HSP-Knowledgeable Therapist and am listed on the hsperson.com website. |
